West Bengal: Released from Bangladesh jail, 135 Fishermen returned to India

West Bengal: Talks were being held with the Bangladesh government to rescue them from the Centre. It was finally released in three months. After the arrest, the Central and State Governments were informed about this by the Sundarbans Marine Fisheries Workers Union.

135 Indian fishermen arrested in Bangladesh’s waters about three months ago have returned home. All of them had lost their way while fishing in the sea and entered the waters of Bangladesh. All of them are residents of South 24 Parganas district of Bengal. According to the information, about three months ago, Indian fishermen had gone to sea fishing from Kakdwip area and had strayed into Bangladesh’s waters. He was arrested by the Coast Guard of Bangladesh. Since then he was lodged in Bangladesh jail.

Talks were being held with the Bangladesh government to release them from the Centre. It was finally released in three months. After the arrest, the Central and State Governments were informed about this by the Sundarbans Marine Fisheries Workers Union. After this talks started between the two countries. The reason for the fishermen entering Bangladesh’s waters was investigated, which confirmed that they had indeed strayed to the neighboring country.
