Suryakumar Yadav: India’s T20 Talent Pool Deep Enough for Two or Three World-Class Teams

India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav asserts that the country’s talent depth in the shortest format is so profound it could field two or even three international-quality teams simultaneously, thanks to a robust domestic structure and thriving IPL ecosystem.

The flamboyant batter, who has delivered remarkable consistency since assuming captaincy after the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup triumph, credits the steady influx of players from domestic leagues and the Indian Premier League for bolstering India’s T20 dominance.

Under Suryakumar’s leadership—beginning right after Rohit Sharma’s exit post the Barbados victory—India has notched 42 wins in 52 matches, underscoring their command in the unpredictable format.

In a recent media interaction, Suryakumar hailed the current squad as “the best T20 team India has produced,” emphasizing the undeniable depth.

“If you talk about talent, I feel you can find talent regularly. There is IPL cricket, franchise cricket, then there is domestic cricket. You can see how many players come every year. So you can make as many teams as you want in T20 when I am talking about T20,” he said.

“So I feel talent is unlimited. If you can make two or three playing XIs, our base is so strong, of the Indian team. So this is not a modest and diplomatic reply. But now it is so strong, so there is no shame in telling the truth,” Suryakumar added.
