West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she has written to the Chief Election Commissioner, expressing deep concern over what she termed as “arbitrary and unprecedented actions” by the Election Commission of India.

In a social media post, Banerjee highlighted the large-scale transfer of senior officials, alleging that such decisions were taken without consultation, stated reasons, or any allegations of misconduct. She said these moves risk disrupting the administrative framework and raise serious questions about institutional neutrality, particularly at a crucial time.
The Chief Minister also pointed to ongoing concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, describing it as flawed and lacking transparency. She further noted that supplementary electoral rolls remain unpublished despite directions from the Supreme Court of India, which, she argued, adds to uncertainty and may hinder citizens’ electoral rights.
Mamata Banerjee cautioned that such developments could undermine democratic principles and strain the spirit of cooperative federalism. Emphasizing the need for accountability, she urged the Election Commission to refrain from unilateral actions and ensure that all decisions are guided by fairness, transparency, and due process.
Her remarks come amid heightened political activity and scrutiny of electoral processes ahead of upcoming elections, with opposition leaders increasingly questioning administrative decisions linked to poll preparedness.
