In a historic milestone for Indian politics, Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving head of government in the country, surpassing the previous record held by Pawan Kumar Chamling.
With 8,931 days in public office as head of government—spanning his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat and now as Prime Minister—Modi has edged past Chamling’s record of 8,930 days. The achievement marks a significant moment in India’s democratic journey and highlights Modi’s long-standing role in governance and public service.
The milestone has been widely acknowledged by leaders across the country. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took to social media to congratulate the Prime Minister, describing his journey as one defined by “pure devotion to the nation and its people.”
In his statement, Singh emphasized that Modi’s political career—from his leadership in Gujarat to his tenure as Prime Minister—has been characterized by unwavering commitment, integrity, and a nation-first approach. He noted that surpassing the long-standing record reflects Modi’s tireless service and dedication to inclusive development.

Modi’s political journey began at the grassroots level and rose to prominence during his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, where he served for over a decade before assuming the office of Prime Minister in 2014. Since then, he has led India through multiple terms, focusing on economic growth, infrastructure development, and global diplomacy.
As the Prime Minister marks this landmark in “Jan Seva” (public service), citizens are being encouraged to share their wishes, messages, and greetings through the NaMo App, celebrating the milestone digitally.
The achievement not only underscores Modi’s political longevity but also reflects his enduring influence on India’s governance landscape, as the country continues to navigate its path of growth and development under his leadership.
