Political tensions escalated in Murshidabad after All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee issued a strong challenge to Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and political figure Humayun Kabir, urging them to ask the central government to withdraw their security cover.
Addressing a gathering, Banerjee asserted that the West Bengal government would provide security to both leaders within 24 hours if central protection is withdrawn. He further questioned their “morality,” alleging that the Centre has been unjust toward minority communities.
Banerjee also launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of deploying “agents” in Murshidabad to influence electoral outcomes. According to him, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is attempting to “mislead voters and divide votes,” while Humayun Kabir is allegedly promoting communal divisions.
He additionally named “Vanish Kumar,” accusing him of engaging in electoral malpractice aimed at suppressing votes.
In a pointed remark, Banerjee claimed that Chowdhury does not trust the state police and instead relies on central forces under Union Home Minister Amit Shah for protection. He also accused Humayun Kabir of aligning with forces responsible for the Babri Masjid demolition, invoking a sensitive chapter in India’s political history.
The TMC leader further alleged that the BJP is resorting to “Mandir-Masjid politics” due to a lack of development achievements, accusing the party of attempting to polarize voters along communal lines in West Bengal.
Abhishek Banerjee expressed confidence that the people of Murshidabad would reject what he termed as “divisive and anti-Bengal forces,” emphasizing that voters would see through such tactics
