UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has reassured citizens that the United Kingdom will remain resilient as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East enters its second month.
Addressing a press conference, Starmer emphasized that while the UK is actively pushing for de-escalation and peace, it will not be directly involved in the conflict.
“This is not our war. We will not be drawn into the conflict. That is not in our national interest,” he stated.
He acknowledged that the crisis could have long-term implications for Britain, particularly on energy and cost of living, but expressed confidence in the country’s preparedness. Starmer highlighted the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a crucial global energy route.
“The most effective way we can support the cost of living in Britain is to push for de-escalation and ensure the reopening of vital energy supply routes,” he added.
The UK government, he said, has a long-term strategy to emerge from the crisis stronger and more secure.
