West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to remove a significant number of voters from the state’s electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
Addressing a poll rally, TMC supremo claimed that nearly 25 lakh voters could be affected by what she described as a deliberate attempt to manipulate the democratic process. She further alleged that the BJP’s actions are driven by “jealousy” and a desire to influence election outcomes in their favor.
The Chief Minister also revealed that she has approached the Supreme Court of India, seeking intervention to ensure that no eligible voter is unfairly deleted from the electoral list. She emphasized the importance of safeguarding democratic rights and maintaining transparency in the electoral system.
The allegations have intensified political tensions in West Bengal, with opposition parties yet to respond formally.
The issue of voter list revisions is expected to become a major flashpoint as the state moves closer to the election cycle.
Mamata Banerjee reiterated her commitment to protecting voters’ rights, urging citizens to remain vigilant and verify their names on the electoral rolls.
