Australia has welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, calling it a crucial step toward de-escalation in the Middle East.

In an official statement, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the Australian government supports ongoing diplomatic efforts to negotiate a broader resolution to the conflict.

Australia Backs US-Israel-Iran Ceasefire, Urges Lasting Peace

“Australia welcomes the agreement by the United States, Israel and Iran to a two-week ceasefire to negotiate a resolution to the conflict in the Middle East,” the statement read, reiterating Canberra’s consistent call for restraint and dialogue.

However, the Prime Minister also highlighted serious concerns over Iran’s actions in the region, particularly the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global shipping route.

According to the statement, disruptions in the Strait, coupled with reported attacks on commercial vessels, civilian infrastructure, and oil and gas facilities, have triggered significant energy supply shocks worldwide. These developments have had a direct impact on global oil and fuel prices, raising concerns among major economies.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most vital maritime chokepoints, through which a substantial portion of global oil supply passes. Any instability in the region has immediate and far-reaching consequences for international trade and energy security.

Australia’s response reflects broader global concerns, as nations continue to monitor whether the temporary ceasefire can pave the way for sustained peace and stability in the Middle East.
