Iran FM Abbas Araghchi Warns U.S.: ‘Choose Ceasefire or War’ Amid Escalating Lebanon Violence

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a sharp warning to the United States, stating that Washington must make a decisive choice between honoring the Iran–U.S. ceasefire or allowing the conflict to continue indirectly through Israel’s actions in Lebanon.

In a strongly worded social media post, Araghchi emphasized that the terms of the ceasefire are “clear and explicit,” leaving no room for dual approaches. “The U.S. must choose—ceasefire or continued war via Israel. It cannot have both,” he stated.

The remarks come amid intensifying violence in Lebanon, where ongoing military strikes have triggered global concern over civilian casualties and a worsening humanitarian situation. Iran has signaled that continued attacks in Lebanon undermine the credibility and intent of the ceasefire agreement.

Tehran’s stance reflects growing frustration over what it sees as contradictions in U.S. policy—supporting a ceasefire diplomatically while allowing allied military operations to persist in the region. The Iranian leadership has framed this as a test of Washington’s commitment to de-escalation.

The ceasefire, which was expected to provide a temporary pause in hostilities and open the door for broader negotiations, now faces uncertainty as regional tensions remain high. Global observers and international leaders are closely monitoring developments, urging all sides to adhere to commitments and avoid further escalation.

With the situation in Lebanon deteriorating, the spotlight is now firmly on the United States. The coming days are likely to determine whether the ceasefire evolves into a lasting diplomatic breakthrough or collapses under the weight of continued regional conflict.
