Despite leading his team to a thrilling win over the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026, Shubman Gill has been fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for maintaining a slow over rate. The Gujarat Titans captain has been penalised ₹12 lakh, marking his first offence of the season under the league’s Code of Conduct.
The match, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, turned into the first last-over thriller of the season. Gujarat Titans held their nerve to secure a narrow one-run victory. With 13 runs needed in the final over, Gill entrusted the ball to Prasidh Krishna, who successfully defended the total despite the presence of in-form batter David Miller at the crease.
In a dramatic finish, Miller hit a six to bring the equation down to two runs off two balls but chose not to take a single on the next delivery, sparking debate. The decision proved costly as Kuldeep Yadav was run out on the final ball, denying Delhi a third consecutive win.
Earlier, Gill led from the front with a solid 70 off 45 balls, supported by fifties from Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar, guiding Gujarat Titans to 210/4. In response, Delhi Capitals got off to a strong start, with captain KL Rahul scoring an impressive 92. However, crucial breakthroughs by Prasidh Krishna and Player of the Match Rashid Khan turned the game in Gujarat’s favour.
While the Titans celebrated a hard-fought win, Gill’s slow over-rate violation added a note of caution for the team moving forward in the tournament.
