The Union Territory of Puducherry is currently in the midst of a high-stakes political battle as citizens head to the polls today, April 9, 2026, to elect the 30 members of the Legislative Assembly. With a multi-cornered contest involving established giants and a significant new player, the political landscape of the UT is facing a potential shift.

Polling began at 7:00 AM across all 30 constituencies. As of 3:00 PM today, the Election Commission has reported a robust voter turnout of 72.4%,

Once polling concludes at 5:00 PM today, all eyes will turn to the May 4 counting day.

Technical Innovations
​The ECI has deployed Robot ‘Nila’ at model polling booths to welcome voters with flowers, and drone surveillance is being used for the first time in vulnerable areas to ensure a fair process. Over 1,099 polling stations have been set up, with 209 identified as sensitive.
