In a swift and well-coordinated rescue effort, authorities successfully completed the evacuation of all stranded tourists from Lachen in North Sikkim under Operation Him Setu.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the entire operation was carried out seamlessly within 48 hours, ensuring the safety of every individual. A total of 1,321 tourists along with 84 local residents were safely evacuated without any incidents.
Connectivity in the affected region had been severely disrupted due to landslides along the Lachen–Chungthang Road. However, swift action by authorities led to the construction of a temporary footbridge, restoring access and enabling continuous evacuation efforts.
The successful execution of Operation Him Setu highlights the efficiency, preparedness, and coordination of rescue teams in managing crisis situations in difficult terrain.
