Qatar Assures Reliable Energy Supply to India Amid West Asia Tensions; Calls for Global Market Stability

In a significant development for India’s energy security, Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to remain a “reliable energy supplier” to India, even as tensions continue to impact the West Asia region.

During high-level talks in Doha, Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi met with India’s Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to discuss bilateral energy cooperation and global supply stability.

The meeting comes at a crucial time, as geopolitical tensions in West Asia have raised concerns over potential disruptions in global energy markets. Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies.

Puri, who was on a two-day official visit to Qatar from April 9–10, also conveyed a message of solidarity from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Qatar’s leadership. The message reiterated India’s support amid the ongoing regional conflict and underscored the strength of India-Qatar ties.

Welcoming the recently announced two-week ceasefire on April 8, both sides expressed hope for a swift resolution to the conflict and stressed the need to minimize disruptions in global energy supply chains.

India, one of the world’s largest energy consumers, relies heavily on Qatar for liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports. The assurance from Qatar is expected to reinforce confidence in long-term energy partnerships and market stability.
