US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning against Iran in a post on Truth Social on April 10, 2026, stating that Tehran “has no cards left to play” except what he described as a “short term extortion of the world by using international waterways.”
Trump’s remarks come amid rising geopolitical tensions and ahead of scheduled peace talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, involving a US delegation and other regional stakeholders.
In his post, President Trump accused Iran of mismanaging access through key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most vital oil transit chokepoints. He further claimed that Iran’s actions violate a recently established understanding regarding safe passage of oil shipments.
“The Iranians don’t seem to realize they have no cards… The only reason they are alive today is to negotiate!” Trump wrote, reinforcing his hardline diplomatic stance.

He also warned of potential military consequences if the talks fail, while indicating that US forces remain prepared for escalation. In additional posts, Trump referred to a “WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL RESET!!!” ahead of the negotiations, signaling intensified pressure alongside diplomatic engagement.
Earlier statements from President Trump suggested he would accept nothing less than “unconditional surrender” from Iran, while also floating the possibility of post-conflict reconstruction under new leadership arrangements.
The situation remains highly fluid as global powers closely monitor the upcoming Islamabad talks, which are expected to influence regional stability and global energy security.
