In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties and promoting sustainable development, India has handed over 90 electric buses to Mauritius. The initiative underscores the shared commitment between the two nations to advance eco-friendly public transportation.
India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar, shared the development on social media, highlighting the importance of the gesture. The buses were officially handed over to Mauritius Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam.
Describing the initiative as a “moving symbol of Green Partnership,” Dr. Jaishankar emphasized that the electric buses represent a collective vision for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
The project aligns with India’s broader efforts to support climate-friendly infrastructure and deepen cooperation with partner nations in the Global South.
The deployment of electric buses is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions in Mauritius while enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of its public transport system.
