West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing it of attempting to derail her candidature from the Bhabanipur assembly seat by filing “false cases” against her.
Addressing a public rally in Keshiyari, Banerjee claimed that two fabricated cases were being prepared to obstruct her electoral prospects. She said the alleged move was foiled due to the intervention of All India Trinamool Congress workers and local residents.
The Chief Minister, who is contesting to retain the Bhawanipur seat, is set to face a high-stakes political battle against Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.
While Banerjee did not elaborate on the nature of the alleged cases, she asserted that the attempt was part of a broader strategy by the BJP to weaken her position ahead of the elections.
Escalating her allegations further, Banerjee claimed that the BJP, in coordination with the Election Commission of India, had removed nearly 90 lakh names from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. She described the exercise as a deliberate attempt to influence the electoral outcome in the state.
The BJP has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
