MI vs RCB Beats ‘Dhurandhar’: IPL Witnesses Longest-Ever Match

The spectacle of the Indian Premier League has outshone even blockbuster cinema. The recently released Dhurandhar: The Revenge may be one of India’s biggest box office hits, but it was the on-field drama of cricket that truly stole the spotlight.

The IPL 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Wankhede Stadium turned into a historic marathon, lasting 4 hours and 22 minutes. It became the longest IPL match ever to start on time and finish without interruptions, reduced overs, or a Super Over—surpassing the film’s runtime of 3 hours and 50 minutes.

In overall IPL history, however, this match ranks as the second-longest. The record still belongs to the unforgettable 2020 encounter between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab), which stretched to an incredible 5 hours and 4 minutes, requiring a rare double Super Over to decide the winner.

Other lengthy matches include the 2023 clashes between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, and between RCB and Gujarat Titans. While both games lasted longer—4 hours 50 minutes and 4 hours 30 minutes respectively—they were delayed by weather and started well beyond the scheduled 7:30 PM IST.

In contrast, the MI vs RCB encounter stood out as a pure, uninterrupted cricketing marathon—proving once again that when it comes to drama and endurance, the IPL remains unmatched.
