The political temperature in West Bengal reached a fever pitch on Monday as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held simultaneous campaign rallies in the Siuri constituency. With the Assembly Elections approaching, both leaders utilized the platform to present contrasting visions for the state while trading sharp criticisms.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee focused her address on her developmental track record, specifically highlighting her tenure as the Union Railway Minister. She claimed to have initiated projects exceeding ₹2 lakh crore during her time in the ministry. Turning her focus to her opponents, the TMC Supremo dismissed the BJP’s campaign promises as empty rhetoric, labeling the party’s leadership “unreliable” and asserting they would fail to deliver on their commitments.
In a counter-offensive, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reinforced the BJP’s central campaign theme of accountability. Following through on his pledge to campaign extensively across the state, Shah emphasized that a BJP administration would prioritize “exposing” alleged scams and “syndicates” that he claims have flourished under the TMC’s governance.
The day’s events underscored the deepening divide between the two parties. While Banerjee continued to highlight the efficiency and reach of her government’s various social welfare schemes, Shah positioned the BJP as the necessary force to dismantle existing power structures in the state.
