CHENNAI, Apr 23: Top political leaders and several celebrities were among the early voters who turned up at polling stations across Tamil Nadu on Thursday as voting for the state Assembly elections began.
Polling for all 234 Assembly constituencies commenced at 7 AM amid tight security and enthusiastic participation from voters.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, TVK chief Vijay, AMMK leader T T V Dhinakaran, PMK president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, and DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth were among the prominent leaders who cast their votes early in the day.
Several film personalities also exercised their franchise. Actor Dhanush cast his vote at St. Francis Xavier Matriculation School in Alwarpet, Chennai, drawing attention from fans and media present at the venue.
Voting is underway across the state with officials reporting smooth and orderly proceedings in most constituencies.
