Amidst the high-voltage political showdown in West Bengal’s Phase 2 elections, a viral moment of compassion has emerged from the Purba Bardhaman district. While the day is defined by intense competition for 16 seats in this district, it was the quiet dedication of a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) jawan that captured the public’s imagination.
The personnel was seen physically assisting an elderly gentleman, who struggled with mobility, to reach his designated polling booth. The jawan not only helped the voter navigate the crowded entrance but ensured he could exercise his franchise comfortably before escorting him back.
The Human Face of Duty
In a state where the presence of central forces is often discussed through the lens of security and tension, this gesture highlighted the “service” aspect of their deployment.
Inclusive Voting: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has emphasized “No Voter Left Behind,” and such acts by security personnel are crucial in making polling stations accessible for the 57,000+ Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and thousands of octogenarians registered in this phase.
Ensuring a Peaceful Process
With over 2.34 lakh security personnel deployed across the 142 constituencies voting today, the mission is two-fold: preventing violence and facilitating the democratic process.
