António Guterres has issued a strong warning over the rapidly escalating crisis in the Middle East, stating that the consequences are worsening “with each passing hour.”
Highlighting the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, Guterres emphasized that any curtailment of navigational rights and freedoms in the region is severely impacting global energy supplies, transportation networks, manufacturing chains, and food markets. He cautioned that such disruptions risk strangling the global economy at a critical time.
Calling for urgent de-escalation, the UN Chief stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward.
He urged all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, pursue peaceful solutions, and take immediate steps to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
“Now is the time for dialogue… for solutions that pull us back from the brink and open a pathway to peace,” Guterres said in his social media statement.
