Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has directed strict action against individuals involved in violence and vandalism in West Bengal amid rising political tension in the state.
The Chief Election Commissioner instructed the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, the Director General of Police (DGP), the Kolkata Police Commissioner, the Director General of the Central Armed Police Forces, along with all District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police (SPs), and senior police officials to ensure constant patrolling across sensitive areas.
The Election Commission emphasized maintaining law and order and taking immediate action against any attempt to disturb peace or damage public property. Security agencies have been asked to remain on high alert and strengthen surveillance in vulnerable districts.
The directive comes amid reports of political clashes and unrest following recent developments in the state’s political landscape. Authorities have been instructed to coordinate closely to prevent escalation and ensure public safety.
Officials are expected to intensify security deployment and monitor sensitive zones to avoid further incidents of violence and vandalism.
