Ayushmann Khurrana on Anek is set to cool northeast

As his film Anek prepares for a theatrical release, Ayushmann Khurrana is gearing up to conquer the big screen by storm. The film, directed by Anubhav Sinha, is set in India’s northeast, an area that few filmmakers have visited. Ayushmann talks about filming Anek and his feelings towards India’s Northeast in a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama.

Ayushmann further on the concept, saying, “The setting for the film is in the northeast. It’s about uniting the northeast with the rest of the country, and there aren’t many films (on the subject) about it. Actors from the northeast, or their representations, are included.”

The actor didn’t hold back when it came to acknowledging the bigotry that the people of Northeast had suffered. Ayushmann described it as “disheartening.” “It’s a completely unique film that has never been seen before in Indian cinema.

I find it quite disappointing that we have completely disregarded the Northeast of our nation and the bigotry that they endure on the mainland. Mainland residents would notice that ‘kya galat kar rahe hai woh’.”

Ayushmann is teaming with Article 15 director Anubhav Sinha for Anek, and the two want to deliver yet another vital lesson. Ayushmann is joined by other performers from the Northeast, as well as veterans Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra, in the film.
