A superb start to the Champions League for Barcelona and another excellent European outing for Robert Lewandowski.

Polish football star Robert Lewandowski bagged his seventh Champions League hat-trick to help guide FC Barcelona to a comfortable victory. Franck Kessie opened the scoring before Lewandowski made it two with a cool finish. Jan Sykora provided some hope for the Czech champions with a well-taken header but Lewandowski scored a second in first-half added time and a third from the edge of the box midway through the second period. Ferran Torres came off the bench to add a fifth as Barcelona made an emphatic start.

Three of the last five hat-tricks in the Champions League (group stage to final) have been scored by Lewandowski.

Also Robert Lewandowski becomes the first player to score a hat-trick for 3 different teams in the Champions League.

Robert Lewandowski has been named Player of the Match. UEFA’s Technical Observer Panel said: “Not just for his goals but also for his understanding of the game.”

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski said , “I knew from the beginning here it was going to be important to adapt right from the first game. People ask about the goals but it’s important to be in the right position, to help my team because my team mates have helped me a lot on and off the pitch.”

FC Barcelona coach Xavi said , “We never doubted Robert for the price or his age. Never. He’s marvellous, as a person, winner, team-mate. It’s about how the team around him work, press… that’s the key to success.”
