Liverpool earn their first win of the campaign .Joel Matip’s 89th-minute header earned Liverpool victory and ended Ajax’s seven-match winning run in the Champions League group stage. The hosts went ahead when Mohamed Salah fired beyond Remko Pasveer after 17 minutes, dominating the first half until Mohammed Kudus equalised with a thunderous strike three minutes from the break. Pasveer produced a string of saves as the Amsterdammers held out, only for Matip’s late intervention to send the Reds level with their opponents and Napoli on three points.
Matip has been named Player of the Match. UEFA’s Technical Observer Panel said: “He had a good game defensively, was strong in duels and also helped Liverpool in attack. He was always a threat from set plays and scored that winning goal with a header from a corner.”
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said ,”It was an intense game. We deserved to win. There was no hiding after the Napoli game, everybody knew what was wrong.”
Salah has scored nine goals in his last nine appearances in the group stage.
Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder said,”If Daley Blind’s effort goes in, we’d have been 2-1 up. We have to learn from this. We’re still a team who are developing. An evening like this is very good for us.”
