Liverpool reinforced their position in second in Group A with a dominant victory at Anfield.Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exquisite free-kick after seven minutes set a tone for the night, although a string of save from Allan McGregor, particularly from Darwin Nunez, kept the score down. It wasn’t until the second half that the points were assured courtesy of a penalty from Mohamed Salah – his tenth goal in as many group games.

Liverpool now have six consecutive home group stage wins in the Champions League, while Rangers have failed to score in eight of their last 11 fixtures in the competition.

UEFA’s Techincal Observer has chosen Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah as tonight’s Player of the Match and said: “He was back to his best on the left, scoring the penalty and always being a threat.”

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah said,”There are definitely things to improve, but we’re taking things game by game. We did well tonight but we need to keep working on certain aspects to make sure we get even better.”

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said, “We had one session with the new system. We told the boys how we wanted to set up and I thought they did particularly well. We were unlucky in moments offensively, rock solid defensively apart from the last few minutes when they had a header from a corner.”
