Another action-packed day at Birmingham 2022 saw medals won in sports including Gymnastics, Cycling, Table Tennis, Judo and Swimming.

BADMINTON

Badminton – Commonwealth Games: Day 4
Malaysia will battle for gold on Tuesday after beating England in the first semi-final of the mixed team competition.

Peng Soon Chan and Yee See Cheah got the better of Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith in a fiercely-contested mixed doubles opener, before singles wins for Tze Yong and victory in the men’s doubles completed a 3-0 win.

They will face India in the final, who saw off Singapore 3-0 in the evening session at the NEC.

BASKETBALL

Amber Merritt top scored with four points as Australia set up a women’s Wheelchair Basketball final against Canada following an 8-6 victory over England at Smithfield.

In the opening match of the day, Elodie Tessier and Kady Dandeneau claimed five points a piece as Canada saw off Scotland 12-5.

Action over the evening session saw Australia and Canada set up a final tie in the men’s competition after wins over England and Malaysia respectively.

England set up a men’s 3×3 Basketball final clash with Australia following a narrow 13-12 victory over Canada.

Australia had earlier beaten Scotland 20-15 to seal their final spot.

The host nation’s women’s team saw off Australia 21-15 in their semi-final and they will face Canada – who defeated New Zealand 16-11 – in the final.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Beach Volleyball – Commonwealth Games: Day 4
Defending champions Australia beat South Africa 2-0 in their men’s Beach Volleyball Pool B clash, with England twins Javier and Joaquin Bello seeing off Cyprus by the same scoreline.

Rwanda edged a 2-1 win over the Maldives in the evening, while Gold Coast champions Canada saw off Kenya with a 2-0 victory in women’s Pool A before New Zealand saw off Ghana 2-0.

BOXING

Commonwealth Games 2022

St Lucia’s Arthur Langelier claimed a walkover victory over Leatialii Afoa of in the men’s Over 75kg-80kg (Light Heavyweight) round of 16.

While Scotland’s Sean Lazzerini, Wales’ Taylor Bevan, Northern Ireland’s Jude Gallagher and Joseph Commey of Ghana all progressed after the referee stopped their respective contests.

HOCKEY

Hockey – Commonwealth Games: Day 4
England had to come from 3-0 and 4-1 behind to dramatically secure a 4-4 draw with India in the men’s Pool B.

A Lalit Kumar Upadhyay strike and a brace from Singh Mandeep put India in control before Liam Ansell gave England hope.

Singh Harmanpreet restored the three-goal advantage but Nick Bandurak’s brace and another from Phillip Roper earned England a point.

In Pool A South Africa recovered from 4-3 down entering the fourth quarter to win 5-4 against Scotland.

Wales picked up their first win in women’s Pool A with a 4-0 victory over Ghana.

In women’s Pool B, Scotland picked up their second win with a thumping 11-0 victory over Kenya.

NETBALL

Commonwealth Games 2022

Gold Coast beaten finalists Australia made it three wins from three with a 74-49 victory over South Africa to stay top of Pool A with Jamaica hot on their heels after a 103-24 win over Barbados.

In Pool B, leaders England beat Northern Ireland 71-27, while New Zealand – in second – trumped Malawi 69-50.

SQUASH

Squash – Commonwealth Games: Day 4
Defending women’s singles champion Joelle King of New Zealand claimed a 2-1 victory over England’s Lucy Turmel, with Canada’s Hollie Naughton and England duo Georgina Kennedy and Sarah-Jane Perry also reaching the semi-finals.

In the men’s competition, defending singles champion James Willstrop’s edged a 3-2 victory over Scotland’s Rory Stewart to reach the last four.
