Dense Fog In Delhi : Flight and Train Schedules Disrupted

The weatherman has issued a warning this winter – dense fog in Delhi. Over the next few days, dense fog is set to hit North
India. As per the met department’s forecast, parts of Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh will
be enveloped in a thick blanket of fog between December 27 – 29. Pockets of North Rajasthan and
North Madhya Pradesh may also experience such adverse weather conditions. Many parts of North India
are likely to experience “dense to very dense” fog till the end of the year, as per the forecast.

Dense Fog In Delhi Train and Flight Schedules Affected

Dense fog conditions have already thrown train and flight schedules out of gear. For Delhi, an orange
alert was issued on December 27 and a yellow alert is on for tomorrow, December 28. According to IMD
color codes, a ‘yellow’ alert calls for authorities to be aware, an ‘orange’ alert requires them to remain
prepared, while a ‘red’ alert calls for the most vigilance and action.

CHECK WITH YOUR AIRLINE IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE FLYING IN OR OUT OF DELHI

The dense fog in Delhi has impaired visibility and the airport has issued a passenger advisory as
schedules of landings and takeoffs continue to be affected. About 30 flights, including international
ones, were delayed at the Delhi airport on Tuesday due to the fog and low visibility, according to airport
authorities.

Delhi Airport issued an advisory that states while landing and takeoffs continue, flights that
are not compliant with CAT III (Category III) standards may face disruptions. Passengers flying in and out
of Delhi have been advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight information and to
check if their flights are CAT III compliant. While landing and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport, flights
that are not CAT III compliant may be affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline
concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted," the advisory
stated.

CAT III-compliant aircraft are equipped with advanced instrumentation and technology that allows
operations in low-visibility conditions, like dense fog. Non-compliant flights may have to face delays or
cancellations to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

The dense fog has led to poor visibility conditions in several parts of the city affecting the normal flow of
traffic and causing delays for early morning commuters. Many trains were canceled or delayed due to
foggy conditions in the national capital, reported PTI. On Tuesday, December 26, visibility was recorded at
Delhi’s main weather station in Safdarjung at 5.30 am was 200 meters while it was 100 meters at the
Palam station.
