The Enforcement Directorate today collected the voice sample of Sujay Krishna
Bhadra, a key accused in the education scam in West Bengal. The organisation,
during its investigation process had found that on February 23, 2023, Bhadra during a
telephonic conversation had allegedly asked a person to delete all data from his
phone.
ED needed to collect his voice recording in order to match it with the one in
the recorded telephonic conversation. After more than five months of struggle, finally
ED was able to collect the voice sample on Wednesday. As mentioned before, Sujay
Krishna Bhadra is a key accused in the education scam in the state for investigations
are on. Bhadra was arrested on June 02, 2023, by the Enforcement Directorate in
connection with the multi-crore scam in the West Bengal School Service Commission
(WBSSC).
Voice Sample Collected At ESI Hospital Joka
The agency accompanied by the Central Reserve Protection Force (CRPF) took
Bhadra to the ESI Hospital, Joka, to obtain a voice sample for its ongoing
investigation into the scam case. “Bhadra was taken to the ESI Hospital, Joka, in a
5G ambulance from the state-run SSKM Hospital. His voice sample was collected in
the presence of an ENT specialist in the hospital in a soundproof room,” informed an
officer.
Notably, Bhadra who is considered close to Trinamool Congress MP, Abhishek
Banerjee, was relocated to the ESCI Medical College Hospital run by the Central
Government from SSKM Hospital, run by the State Government on Wednesday night.
He had been undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital for the past three months.
Kalighater Kaku’s Alleged Role In The Case
Popularly known as Kalighater Kaku, Bhadra had to undergo heart surgery due to
arterial blockage in August last year. After his operation in a private hospital, he was
later shifted to SSKM Hospital where he was undergoing treatment. ED had been
trying to obtain his voice sample since July 2023 with the court’s approval but had
been unsuccessful till now.
On December 8 2023 officials of Enforcement Directorate reached SSKM hospital and
discovered that Bhadra had been shifted to the ICU.
Bhadra in an earlier interview with a television channel had said that he worked in the
office of Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
“Abhishek Banerjee is my saheb (boss). I work in his office. I have been working
there since 2009,” Bhadra was quoted as saying to the media.
Abhishek Banerjee has already been questioned in connection with the investigation
into the cash-for-jobs scam in which teaching and non-teaching staff were allegedly
appointed in government schools between 2014 and 2021, in violation of due
regulations and procedures.
Three TMC MLAs, including the former state education minister, have already been
arrested in connection with the case. They are now in judicial custody.
