Asked To Appear On February 19 For Questioning
The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday summoned Trinamool Congress leader and MP Mahua Moitra to appear before the federal agency on February 19 in connection with the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) contravention case. The ED will question the MP regarding her alleged involvement of compromising national security in exchange of monetary gains.
Notably, Moitra is also under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is conducting a preliminary inquiry into allegations referred by the Lokpal.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused Mahua Moitra of targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha questions, allegedly at the directions of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts. He has also accused her of compromising national security for monetary gains.
In December 2023, Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha over this issue.
Mahua Moitra Has Consistently Denied Any Wrong Doing On Her Part
The TMC leader, on her part, has consistently denied any wrongdoing, stressing that she is being targeted for questioning the Adani Group’s deals.
“Neither the Lokpal has uploaded any referral order on the website as per the Lokpal Act, nor has the CBI released any official statement. Hope the ₹13,000 crore Adani coal scam merits a CBI preliminary inquiry before my witch-hunt,” Moitra had stated in November. Around the time, she also posted on her X handle,” I have neither time nor interest to feed a Adani-directed media circus trial or answer BJP trolls. I am enjoying Durga Puja in Nadia.”
