Amarnath Yatra: Cloudburst near cave,rescue operation underway

A cloudburst incident took place at the holy cave are of Amarnath on Friday which resulted in a heavy discharge of water in the ‘Nallah’, adjoining the holy cave.

Massive amount of water flowing turbulently after a cloud burst occurred in the lower reaches of Amarnath cave. Rescue operation is underway at the site

According to officials, Water came from sides of the cave after heavy rains at the upper reaches.The rain has stopped for now.

“Cloudburst reported at around 5:30pm. High momentum water flow affected many tents. Our crew is engaged in rescue work. 2 out of our 3 teams engaged. J&K Police, Indian Army & ITBP also engaged. Initial momentum decreasing, we’ll be prepared for every situation

One NDRF team is always deployed near the holy cave, it immediately engaged in the rescue work. One more team has been deployed & another is on its way. 10 casualties reported so far; 3 rescued alive,” NDRF DG Atul Karwal said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses anguish about the cloudburst near Amarnath cave in J&K; tweeted, “Spoke to J&K LG Manoj Sinha and took stock of the situation. Rescue and relief operations are underway. All possible assistance is being provided to the affected.”
