On the day of Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary Governor Jagdeep Dhankar paid homage to the Gandhi Memorial at Gandhighat in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas.
Among others present on the occasion were Minister of State Bratya Basu, Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, District Magistrate of North 24 Parganas Sumit Gupta and others. The governor later said that Gandhiji’s ideology, thought and non-violence policy are still relevant all over the world. He hoped that the forthcoming assembly elections in the state would be free, peaceful and non-violent.
Blowing out the violence in the governor’s statement, he said “the governor did not speak of state violence. He wanted to talk about the violence of Nathuram Godse. He spoke of identifying Gandhiji’s assassins.”
