Indian Student Brutally Assaulted in Chicago, Wife Appeals to MEA

In what is turning out to be a matter of serious concern to the nation, yet another Indian student faced a brutal attack in Chicago recently. Social media was flooded with a video that showed Syed Mazahir Ali, the Indian student running away from attackers and then bleeding profusely while recounting the harrowing ordeal.

Requesting for help, he said, “While I was about to reach home, 4 men attacked me. They kicked me, punched me and also snatched my phone. Please help me.”

One of the videos that is circulating on social media appears to be CCTV footage of the incident. In a residential neighbourhood, we see Ali being chased by three attackers on the streets of Chicago.

Wife Requests For Help And Emergency Visa From MEA

His wife, who is in India currently, has now requested for help in joining him. ” My husband Mazahir Ali went to Chicago for his masters. A deadly attack happened on him on February 4 at around 1 am…around 6 am in the morning I received the Whatsapp video showing him being attacked…He is seriously injured…The authorities there did not provide any proper treatment to him.”

She appealed to the Indian Government to ensure that Ali gets medical and legal assistance in the US and for an emergency visa to join him.

“…I request MEA to issue an emergency visa for me so that I can visit my husband,” she says in the video.

A resident of Hyderabad, Telangana, Mazahir Ali is pursuing a Masters in IT from Indiana Weslay University.

Indian Consulate, Chicago, Is Extending All Possible Assistance

The Indian Consulate in Chicago has stated that it is in touch with the victim, Syed Mazahir Ali, as well as his wife in India and assured all possible assistance. ” The Consulate is in touch with Syed Mazahir Ali and his wife in India, Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Razvi and assured all possible assistance,” the Indian Consulate in Chicago wrote in a post on X.

The Consulate has also contacted the local authorities who are investigating the case, it mentioned in its official post.
