Bollywood is experiencing turbulence due to commercial reasons. Only three Hindi movies have so far been a financial success in 2022, while Hindi-dubbed South Asian movies are dominating the entertainment industry. Now, in a recent interview, director Karan Johar gave his thoughts on the situation. He claimed that south Indian directors currently have more “conviction” than Bollywood films.
Speaking with a media source, Karan asserted that movies like “KGF: Chapter 2” and “RRR,” which have grossed more than Rs 1,100 crore globally, provided the Hindi cinema with the clarity of vision they now lack. Hindi movies tend to concentrate more on attempting to be too many things at once. He added that if Bollywood had produced a movie like “KGF 2,” it would have received negative reviews immediately.
Prashant Neel’s action comedy “KGF 2” not only broke box office records, but also brought in more than Rs 400 crore from the Hindi-speaking market alone. Additionally, practically everywhere gave it favourable ratings.
Karan said he was surprised to read that the critics were enamored of the gangster story and referred to it as a party, celebration if it had been made in Bollywood. The talented filmmaker said that he also adored it wholeheartedly. But he also thought, What if we had created this?
He believes that the tendency is reciprocal since Bollywood movies are frantically attempting to be something they are not in the end. According to Karan, Hindi moviemakers are attempting to lead two lives and this must be prevented.
