Mamata Banerjee Opts Out of Ram Mandir Inauguration

Neither Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee nor any representative from TMC shall be present at the event to mark the inauguration of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024, as reported by news agencies. TMC is yet to officially announce its decision though the Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) have already expressed their decision that they shall not be attending the event.

MAMATA BANERJEE WARY OF BJP’S POLITICS IN RELIGION AROUND RAM TEMPLE

Reliable sources have stated why she will miss the event or whether she has received an invite for
the ‘Pran Pratistha Mahotsav of Lord Ram’ is not yet clear, though it is likely to be an exercise of politics
in religion according to her which is why she will choose to stay away. According to them, Mamata
Banerjee is wary of the BJP narrative of saffronisation that the party hopes to leverage in the
forthcoming Lok Sabha election campaign.

REACTIONS FROM POLITICAL PARTIES AND LEADERS FLOW IN

Expressing their official stand on the matter, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has made it clear
that they will not attend the event, stating “The BJP and RSS have converted a religious ceremony into a
state-sponsored event directly involving the Prime Minister.” The Chairman of the Indian Overseas
Congress Sam Pitroda has remarked that much importance is being given to the inauguration of the Ram
Temple and the fact bothers him. There is speculation that leaders of the Indian National Congress
would probably opt to stay away as well.

As the date of the inauguration of the Ram Temple draws closer, developments and reactions are expected
to flow in from political parties, including leading opposition figures. The Ram Temple trust has
reportedly extended invitations to all political parties and prominent opposition leaders. The inaugural
celebrations of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya are scheduled to take place on January 22, 2024, in the
presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and a host of eminent
persons from different walks of life.
