Minister Partha Chatterjee Dropped From Mamata Banerjee’s Cabinet

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday  removed Partha Chatterjee as a minister, five days after he was arrested for alleged corruption in recruitment of teachers and other staff in state government schools.

“I have removed Partha Chatterjee as a minister. My party takes strict action. There are many plannings behind it but I don’t want to go into details”,West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said .

Mamata Banerjee further said, “I have relieved him because my party is a very strict party. If someone thinks that they can change perception by showing this, they are wrong.”

Facing intense pressure from the opposition over corruption charges, Mamata on Thursday sacked Partha Chatterjee as minister. He held three portfolios – Ministry for Industry, Commerce and Enterprise; Ministry for Information Technology and Electronics; Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs – in the Mamata cabinet. All three portfolios are now with the Chief Minister.

“Partha Chatterjee, minister in charge, department of industry, commerce and enterprises, department of information technology and electronics, department of parliamentary affairs and department of public enterprises and industrial reconstruction, is hereby relieved of his duties as MIC of the aforesaid department with immediate effect,” an official order said.
