Murray roars back to beat James Duckworth in Wimbledon

by Kolkata Today

Former world No 1 Andy Murray recovered from dropping the first set to beat James Duckworth and reach the second round at Wimbledon.

Playing for the first time since suffering an abdominal injury in the final of the Stuttgart Open earlier this month, Andy Murray came through 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 in two hours and 43 minutes under a closed roof on Centre Court.

“Once I started to find my returns a little bit more as the match went on, I started to feel more comfortable. But I did well to get through it”,Andy Murray said.

Even the best laid plans do not always… well, go to plan.
So it was that Andy Murray dropped the opening set against James Duckworth on Centre Court. That was not in the script.
Murray is not daft enough to think that he could not drop a set to the Australian world No.74 but he was not intending to. Not after all the work he had put into his grass court preparations.
For those of a nervous disposition, do not worry: Murray ended up winning relatively comfortably but for the first 41 minutes of the first round encounter, the Centre Court crowd were getting twitchy.

“I did well to rebound after the first set,” Murray said.
“He likes playing on the grass and he was playing very well.”

“There’s always nerves and pressure and butterflies and stress and all of those things before the first match.
It was a longer build-up for me than usual because of the ab injury I had after Stuttgart so I’ve done a lot of practising here, I’ve been at the venue a lot the last couple of weeks.
So it was great for me to get out here, get a win under my belt and hopefully play better from here on,”Andy Murray added.
