Rafael Nadal simply refuses to let anything stop him at Wimbledon this year: not his chronic foot injury, not the abdominal injury that needed treatment in Wednesday’s quarter-final and not Taylor Fritz, the No.11 seed.
Rafael Nadal won in a match that the packed Centre Court crowd could barely believe he could finish, much less win. Calling for treatment in the second set, the Spaniard was clearly in pain and his movement, serve and backhand were seriously affected. He looked done.
But Nadal is one of the sport’s greatest fighters. He found a way to make the most of what he had left to force the match into a fifth set and finally move past Fritz and on to an appointment with Nick Kyrgios on Friday.
