Politically, these days Pakistan is on a pile of gunpowder. Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has openly rebelled against the army. However, there is also a truth that no leader can win by fighting the army in Pakistan.
Imran Khan realized this reality when he could not even register his FIR for four days after the deadly attack. That too when there is a coalition government of his party in Pakistan’s Punjab province (where the incident took place). Imran Khan, who is unable to register his case even after being shot in the leg, has got relief from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
On Monday, the court ordered Punjab province IG Faisal Shahkar to register an FIR within 24 hours in connection with the attack on Imran Khan. Chief Justice Omar Ata Bandiyal said that if the case is not registered, the court will take suo motu cognizance. Imran Khan’s party PTI has described the court’s direction as the first step towards getting justice.
The attack took place on Thursday evening
Actually, Imran Khan was attacked during the Long March in Wazirabad, Punjab on Thursday evening. Several bullets were fired at him. Imran was injured after being shot in the right leg. He was discharged from the hospital on Sunday after the surgery. On Sunday, Imran said that no FIR was registered in the attack on him. Due to the name of an army general, the case is not being registered. Pressure is being put on him to remove the name of the army officer.
Why is the case not being registered
Imran Khan is adamant on registering a case against Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Home Minister Rana Sanaullah and Major General Faisal Naseer in connection with the attack on him. Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi is not ready to register the case. He does not mind the names of Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah in the case, but Major General Faisal is not ready to file a case against Naseer. At the same time, Punjab IG Shahkar has decided to resign as the pressure to register the case increased.
