Dense to very dense fog is likely to continue over some parts of the Northwest and East
India over the next three days and gradually decrease thereafter. This was conveyed
by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Several parts of North and Northwest
India have already been experiencing cold weather inconveniencing normal life for
many.
Harsh Cold Weather Likely To Persist For The Next Few Days
The cold wave conditions are expected to continue over the plains of Haryana, Punjab,
Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan for the next three days and gradually decrease
thereafter. Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected in the mornings over the
next two days in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh and certain parts of Rajasthan.
Dense fog conditions are also expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, and the
Northeast. In a press briefing, IMD stated that across the north, northwest and
northeast, cold wave conditions are likely to persist over the next couple of days,
including the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana,
Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West
Bengal, and the states of Northeast India.
Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions are likely to continue over many parts of
Punjab and Haryana. They are also predicted in Rajasthan and isolated pockets of
Uttar Pradesh.
Rainfall In Parts Of South India Predicted
Rainfall is predicted over parts of South India. It is also predicted over parts of
Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Bihar. The Met department said that light,
isolated rainfall was very likely over these areas between January 03 – 08. The rainfall
in South India with light to moderate rain over south Tamil Nadu and south Kerala
and isolated heavy rainfall over Lakshadweep would be owing to an easterly wave and
low-pressure formation.
