But Liverpool levelled three minutes later through Joel Matip, who swept in from Virgil van Dijk’s pass after the home side could not clear a free-kick.

The winner came on 65 minutes when Mane cleverly diverted Luis Diaz’s cross into the back of the net for his 15th Premier League goal of the season.

Aston Villa coach Steven Gerrard said ,“I’m super proud of the team tonight, in terms of the fight, heart and desire. They made the supporters proud with what they gave to the game but unfortunately, we’re on the wrong side of the result.
We had big moments in the game to score more than one goal; we created a lot of great chances against a really good team.
Unfortunately we’ve conceded two poor goals against a top side and had moments that have gone against us, and we need to improve in those situations.
A boisterous home crowd helped push their team on throughout a pulsating contest that saw Villa create several great chances.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said,”Massive. Outstanding, again an incredible mentality, changed five times, coming here, a well set-up team obviously, in a diamond. We needed time to find into the game and the opponent was there from the beginning, like really aggressive, lot of challenges. Actually the main issues we had were losing balls in for us the wrong areas, from there they could go. Then it’s difficult to get rhythm. On top of that, we were 1-0 down. And then we had to dig deep, clear. They had moments, of course, they had a big chance with Ingsy, that was obviously a world-class situation from Ali.
Look, if my players would not be as good as they are I would talk about completely different stuff with you. Their quality, mentality and character is the reason why we are where we are. I’m not surprised they are able to do something like this but I don’t take it for granted – I’m really proud tonight of the boys, it was massive.”
