Manchester United’s top-four hopes were hit as they conceded a half-time lead again and were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton thanks to Che Adams’ 48th-minute goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo almost put Manchester United ahead at Old Trafford early on, but his effort was cleared off the line by Romain Perraud.
Manchester United took the lead on 21 minutes, when Bruno Fernandes played a defence-splitting through-ball to Marcus Rashford, who crossed for Jadon Sancho to score his first Premier League goal at Old Trafford.

As with their 1-1 draw at Burnley on Tuesday, United conceded an equaliser shortly after half-time.
Adams, who scored the late winner at Tottenham Hotspur in midweek, latched on to a pass from Mohamed Elyounoussi before firing in via the far post.

Both sides pressed for a winner. Stuart Armstrong blazed over for Saints while Fraser Forster twice superbly denied Harry Maguire from close range.
Manchester United rise to fifth on 40 points, behind West Ham United on goal difference but a point above Arsenal having played two matches more.
Southampton are 10th on 29 points.
Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhüttl said ,”This is the level we want to deliver and that’s what we do that, it’s fantastic to watch. We have learned to be brave and to play good football.”

The boss on another positive #SaintsFC performance:

After the Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick said ,”Unfortunately, again, it was very similar to the last couple of games. Very good first half, very good first half-hour. We did all the things we intended to do with the counter-attacks, with the deep runs. [It was] exactly that way we created the goal and prepared the goal. It was a great goal, in all aspects of the goal. But then we stopped doing that. Even at the end of the first half, we didn’t do those things anymore.
And then in the second half, we also lost a bit of shape in the first 20 minutes. We were struggling to defend against them and exactly that happened in transition when they scored their goal. In the last 20 minutes, we had enough opportunities, big chances to score again. The expected-goals ratio was in our favour clearly but, in the end, we didn’t get the result we wanted to.”
