Manchester United needed goalkeeper David De Gea to be in top form during the first half at Old Trafford as he made a pair of fine saves to deny Jakub Moder.
Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, scoring for the first time in six Premier League matches, as he collected an interception by Scott McTominay and fired clinically into the bottom-right corner.

Cristiano Ronaldo has added yet another club to the list of sides he has scored against, as Manchester United beat Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.
The Portuguese attacker registered his first ever strike against the Seagulls – in his first meeting with them – by charging into the heart of their defence, skipping a challenge and powerfully firing beyond keeper Robert Sanchez, who was left rooted to the spot.
Things got worse for Brighton just three minutes later when captain Lewis Dunk was sent off after his foul on Anthony Elanga was upgraded from a yellow card to a red following a VAR review.
Ronaldo and Fernandes missed big chances to double the lead and were nearly punished as Moder hit the crossbar with a long-range strike at the other end.
But Fernandes made sure of the points deep into stoppage time, running clean through and fooling Sanchez with a clever dummy before finishing into the empty net.
Drive. Energy. Composure. ⚡️

Manchester United now have 43 points, 10 more than Brighton, who stay ninth.
Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick said ,“It felt better than the 35-40 minutes before that! Obviously, we should have killed the game off again, much earlier after the red card. We had five, six unbelievable chances to score, but, again, we didn’t and as long as it’s 1-0 and with the experience of the last three games – it’s normal that there is then a little bit of insecurity in the team. We were not quite lethal enough in those moments to kill the game off and it is always dangerous against 10 men. You can concede a goal. With Bruno’s goal, it was clear with only one minute to go that the game was over but it took very long before we put the game to bed.”
