CM Urges Modi for Release of West Bengal's Pending Funds

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the issue of pending
dues to West Bengal. She met him along with nine TMC MPs in New Delhi on Wednesday to demand the
release of funds to various central government schemes for the state.

DO NOT PUNISH THE COMMON PEOPLE (BY STOPPING FUNDS), SHE TELLS HIM

The Chief Minister has accused the Centre of blocking funds for the state and has even written to the
Prime Minister regarding the matter in the past. “We told the Prime Minister that for two years, 100
days’ work money was not given to us which is mandatory in our constitutional provision. In the 2023
general budget, the central government did not allocate even one paise. The central government also
stopped funds for PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) project allocation, health mission allocation and
finance commission. We said, if there is any fault, punish us but do not punish the common people,”
Banerjee said.

“More than 150 (central) teams came to our state, and we gave details and explanations to those teams.
Previously, I met the Prime Minister three times. In these projects, both the central government and
state government have a share. So, this is not very healthy to stop money,” she added.

PM ASSURES A JOINT MEETING OF GOVT. OFFICIALS TO LOOK INTO THE MATTER

At a press conference held later, Mamata Banerjee said that the Prime Minister assured her that a joint
meeting of government officials would be held to look into their demands on releasing central funds for
the state for various projects. “The Prime Minister heard our demands. He assured us that he will
arrange a joint meeting of central government and state government officials to find a solution to the
issue,” said Banerjee.
