Shiv Sena moves SC against Governor’s order for floor test

Maharashtra governor has ordered a floor test for the Uddhav Thackeray government in the state assembly tomorrow. Rebel Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde said that he and MLAs loyal to him will return to Mumbai tomorrow for the floor test.

Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu moves SC challenging Maharashtra Governor’s direction to CM Uddhav Thackeray to prove his majority support in Assembly tomorrow.

Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu through counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi seeks urgent hearing of petition at 6 pm today for a stay on the “illegal floor test” ordered for 11 am tomorrow by Governor.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi, counsel for Shiv Sena said ,”Votes of MLAs facing disqualification would be illegally counted if floor test is held.”

Neeraj Kaul, counsel for rebel MLAs said ,”Calling for a floor test is prerogative of the goverment. the pendency of a disqualification motion can never be a impediment to hold a floor test.”

Sources said that SC will hear matter at 5 pm if all paperwork is ready and submitted.

Meanwhile appearing for Maharashtra Governor, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said he had no objection to the matter being heard today at 5 pm.
