Quick question. Elon Musk. Pope Francis. Angela Merkel. Ebola Fighters. What do they all have in common? Answer: They are all awardees of the Time Person of the Year. Now, Taylor Swift, American singer-songwriter, versatile storyteller, and the heartthrob of millions of youngsters across the globe joins the list.
Taylor Swift has been named 2023 Person of the Year by Time. She beat out a host of finalists from the political and entertainment world who had dominated their respective landscapes over the past few months.
“This is the proudest and happiest I’ve ever felt, and the most creatively fulfilled and free I’ve ever been,” Swift told TIME. “Ultimately, we can convolute it all we want, or try to overcomplicate it, but there’s only one question … Are you not entertained?”
The 12-time Grammy winner took to social media to share a photo of her eye-catching cover of the issue. In the photoshoot, she’s seen standing undeniably confident in a black long-sleeved bodysuit and a pair of opaque black tights. Shot with large doses of black, grey, and white with her bold red lipstick and long ash blonde hair styled carelessly and making quite a statement, we see Taylor Swift nestling her cat, Benjamin Button, around her neck – almost like a scarf – whose big blue eyes stare directly at us.
It has truly been a year of achievements for Taylor Swift. The pop star’s “Eras Tour” became a hot talking point of the summer’s pop cultural zeitgeist dominating social media platforms of all and sundry, especially the ones who were present at her shows.
At a certain point, the Federal Reserve even remarked that Swift’s concert had boosted tourism and travel terrifically. Her concert film themed largely on the popular global tour has since broken records. Its distributor, AMC Theaters, has called it the highest-grossing concert movie in history. The “Eras Tour” film garnered a staggering $90 million at the box office in the United States and more than $30 million internationally over its opening weekend alone.
Swift’s Eras Tour became a sensation everywhere in 2023. In late October the pop star re-released a recording of her album “1989” in the wake of her concert film’s release.
Taylor Swift was also named Spotify’s most-streamed artist this year.
