Portugal showed their class in Prague. Their technical skills, tactical plan, excellent passing and beautiful team goals ensured a fully deserved win by a convincing margin. The Czechs will need a much better display to avoid relegation against Switzerland.

The right-back surges forward but after off-loading to Bruno Fernandes on the right, continues his run into the area, Ronaldo misses a low cross but Rafael Leao cuts the ball back from the left and Dalot is on hand to slam the ball past the goalkeeper with a first-time shot down the middle to register his first international goal.

Mario Rui spots a late run into the box from Bruno Fernandes and swings in a low cross from the left which the static Czech defence can’t cut-out allowing the Manchester United man to convert from close range with a bouncing finish.

After Cristiano Ronaldo is adjudged to have handled the ball in an unatural position, Schick steps up to take the spot-kick, only to lash a wild effort which skims the bar on its way into the stands. What a let-off for Portugal.

Dalot is a right back but he picks up the ball just outside the penalty area, cuts onto his weaker left foot and uses the defender to disguise a curling shot which beats the keeper into the bottom corner. A striker’s finish and Dalot is on a hat-trick.

Ronaldo rises highest to meet Ricardo Horta’s corner from the right but his glancing header bounces up for Diogo Jota to nod home from close range at the far post.

Czech Republic coach Jaroslav Silhavy said ,”We did not play a good game. Against such a good opponent we needed an extraordinary performance and we did not achieve it. It seemed to me we had too much respect.”

Portugal coach Fernando Santos said,”It was a very competent first half – not perfect, but very competent. With the exception of defensive set-pieces, where at corners we had some unnecessary loss of focus. It is one of the aspects in which the Portuguese team has always been very strong and has not been doing so well.”
