Denmark beat France for the second time in four months, but the result didn’t change anything in the group. Denmark’s significant period in the first half turned out to be enough to take home the 2-0 win against a French team that only showed their actual class on a few occasions.
It’s all over and Denmark take the win. It may not be enough for them to reach the finals, but it is a result that sends a warning to the French ahead of their World Cup meeting in November. Two goals in the first half were enough for the home side to finish the section on 12 points, but they’ve been pipped to top spot by Croatia. France finish third in their defence of their title.
Antoine Griezmann leads France out for the first time.He becomes the 125th captain in the history of les Blues.
Denmark break the deadlock! It’s another wonderful pass from Eriksen, out to the left and Damsgaard this time, and he fires a cross in where Dolberg sticks his foot out and slides the ball past Areola to give Denmark the lead.
What a spell for the Danes. The corners have become more and more threatening and they score from this one! It’s played in deep by Eriksen and headed into the middle, where Delaney gets a touch to lay it to the edge of the box where Skov Olsen slams it back through the crowd and into the bottom corner.
Denmark coach Kasper Hjumland said ,”It’s something that really, really helps us. We fly on the pitch because of the support we get from the stadium.”
France coach Didier Deschamps said ,”The most important we’ve learnt before we are meeting Denmark again is that we need to play at a very high level when we meet an opponent at this level. We didn’t manage to play with the same aggression as the Danes.”
