The Maryland native sent Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd into a frenzy throughout his 7-6(3), 7-6(0), 6-4 victory over No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev to ensure that the US Open men’s semifinals will have some American flavor to it for the first time in 16 years. Not since former US Open champion Andy Roddick has an American man reached the semifinals of the year’s final major, back in 2006, and Tiafoe’s victory also puts an American man into the final four of any major since John Isner’s run to the Wimbledon semifinals in 2018.
