France’s Caroline Garcia entered Thursday night’s semifinal tussle with Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur as the most in-form player at this year’s US Open. The 28-year-old was in pulsating form and had not dropped a set en route to her first career major semifinal, handing over a meager 27 games as she ran her current winning streak to 13.

It all came crashing down in a heartbeat as Jabeur raced through the opening set in 23 minutes and never looked back as she sped to an imperious victory.

The pride of the Arab world, and the first African to ever reach the US Open final, Jabeur made history two months ago at Wimbledon, where she reached her first Grand Slam final.
“It feels amazing,” Jabeur told the crowd, which was speckled with Tunisian flags, after her triumph. “After Wimbledon there was a lot of pressure on me and I’m really relieved that I could back up my results.”
